Selecting nodes

The Outliner of Giants places information within a nodal structure which supports the selection of both individual and multiple nodes so that actions can be applied to them, such as receiving a marking, movement within or between outlines, or being removed from a document altogether.

Selecting a single node#

To select a single node on a desktop or notebook personal computer, simply hover over it with your mouse cursor and it will be highlighted with a darker border. To select a different node move the mouse cursor over it, or use the up and down keys to select the next available node within the current view.

Once a node is selected you can use a range of keyboard shortcuts to apply an action to it.

Selecting multiple nodes#

If you would like to apply changes to more than one node at a time you can use the muti-select functionality to select nodes from across your outline.

When using a desktop or notebook personal computer, hold down your preferred keyboard modifier whilst clicking on a node, or hit Modifier + D + M to add the currently highlighted node to a multi-select session.

On mobile devices select the [Clone ] button within the first node’s toolbar, and click ‘Start multi-selection’. Tapping on additional nodes will add them to the list of currently selected nodes.

Each node added to the list of currently selected nodes will be highlighted with a border, and you can continue navigating your outline’s structure as you add more nodes to the list.

Once you have started a multi-select session the toolbar at the top of the screen will change to show the functionally that can be applied to all of the the selected nodes.

Once you have selected your first node you can use a couple of keyboard shortcuts to select multiple nodes at a time:

  • To select down from a highlighted node to the currently selected node hit Modifier + D.
  • To select up from a highlighted node to the currently selected node hit Modifier + U.

To clear the list of currently selected nodes click the [ Empty clipboard] button within the toolbar.

To make use of this functionality simply sign up and create your first outline (it’s free!).
